Institutional & Development Partners
Australian Red Cross (ARC)
ARC is one of VRCS’s long-standing and most trusted partners. Through years of collaboration, ARC has supported a wide range of humanitarian programs and played a vital role in strengthening VRCS’s operational capacity. In addition to funding key projects, ARC has consistently contributed to VRCS’s core costs, ensuring the organisation remains resilient and operational between emergency responses.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
The IFRC is one of the VRCS’s most significant and long-standing partners. Over the years, IFRC has provided extensive support across various humanitarian programs and initiatives. Their contributions have been especially crucial during major disasters, including every tropical cyclone that has impacted Vanuatu and the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake in December 2024. As a key institutional partner, IFRC not only provides funding but also offers technical guidance, emergency response coordination, and capacity building to ensure VRCS can effectively serve vulnerable communities across the country.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
UNDP, in collaboration with VRCS, is partnering on the ‘A Malaria-Free Vanuatu’ project. This initiative aims to eliminate malaria across all provinces by 2026, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero indigenous cases and obtaining WHO certification of malaria-free status by 2029. This project is a crucial step toward a healthier, malaria-free future for Vanuatu.
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
UNICEF has been a long-standing partner, providing critical support to VRCS. In 2020, UNICEF donated tarpaulins in response to Tropical Cyclone Harold, which were distributed to affected islands. In 2022, UNICEF supported the Shefa branch with handwashing stations. In 2023, they provided dignity kits and handwashing buckets for VRCS to distribute in response to Tropical Cyclones Judy and Kevin. In 2024, UNICEF focused on addressing malnutrition in Malampa, Penama, and Torba. UNICEF has also been an essential partner in the earthquake response.

USAID has been a key partner in disaster response efforts in Vanuatu. In 2024, USAID donated essential non-food items (NFIs) to support the Vanuatu Red Cross Society’s (VRCS) disaster relief efforts. These items were vital during the response to the devastating earthquake on December 17, 2024. USAID's consistent support strengthens VRCS’s ability to deliver life-saving assistance to communities affected by natural disasters.
